Otto Frank est le seul de sa famille à avoir survécu à la déportation. Il revient en pèlerinage dans le grenier d'Amsterdam où il s'est caché durant deux ans avec sa famille et découvre le journal où sa fille, Anne, tenait une correspondance avec une amie imaginaire.
